About English Sounds - The short vowel sounds

The short vowel sounds in English are captured in this nonsense sentence:

Let's put hats in hot huts

Notice how your mouth opens and your lips move as you say the individual short vowel sounds.  It is the combination of the position of the tongue in the mouth, plus the shape of the mouth and the lips that contribute to the unique quality of each sound.
